Getting back on track at The Dells...
After a ho-hum start to the season, it looks like we've finally started to get things back on track. This was one of our best overall cooks yet. The ribs and chicken took a hit at the judges tent (although we thought they were some of the best we've ever cooked) yet we were still able to pull off a 5th place overall (thanks to a 7th in pork and 1st place Brisket).

Brisket goes Back to Back!
It was a rather warm weekend... Ok... It was a VERY warm weekend, especially being so early in the season, but at least it was dry! Overall it was another good cook and as a team we seem to be getting into our groove already. A last minute change on the Chicken pulled through and brought it up to an unexpected 2nd place. We thought the Ribs were good and that was reflected in the judging (a respectable 11th place). Pork still has us scratching our heads, what used to be our anchor meat is now the boat anchor to our overall scores, but it gives us a focus for improvement. We thought the Brisket was good but didn't expect with this field of competition to take a first place with it again. Overall we finished in Third place, just 6/10th of a point from Second and a mere 3.5 points from First.

Defending our title...
We hold a special place in our hearts for the Auburn Hills, MI competition. Not only is it an exceptionally well run event by wonderful people, but it marks the anniversary of our first Grand Champion award. We went into this weekend hoping to repeat last year's success and defend our title at competition GC, but we know well enough that anything can happen. It was a good cook with many distractions but we felt good about the turn ins. We placed 5th in chicken, 8th in ribs, 10th in pork and 1st in brisket and we were able to repeat as Grand Champion.
